A Brief Annual Biography Of Samdech Chuon Nath Buddhist High School

I- Development of Buddhist Education:

In September 1979, Buddhism was officially re-organized by the government and the front-council. In 1989, based on the agreement of the Party Central Committee of Cambodian State No. 292 d.kh.m.b. dated 13th November 1989, the earliest Buddhist Elementary School was officially authorized to establish.
According to principles of the Council of Ministers of the State of Cambodia dated 13th November 1992, the Ministry of Cult and Religion was agreed to re-establish Buddhist Education in which the ministry set up the first Buddhist High School called Suramarit Buddhist High School in Phnom Penh which opened for the first time in 1992-1993 and another place is in Battambang Province, and Buddhist High School was established in various provinces such as Kratie, Takoe, Prey Veng, Kampong Cham, etc,…
In those days Buddhist High School had been highly developed due to the deeply and strongly involvement of the front-Council, Samdech Preah Mangoltepeacha Sanghatthero Um Sum, Samdech Preah Sumedhadhipati Nand Nget, Samdech Preah Dhammalikhit Leass Lay, and Samdech Preah Uttammuni Heng Leangho.

II- The establishment of S.Chuon Nath Buddhist High School, Kampong Cham Province:

In Kampong Cham Province, the increasingly development on the Scope of Buddhism should be noted and proud.

Having supported by the most Venerable Chhiv Sareth (Dhammathorgana of Kampong Cham), Mr. Nguon Chanthy, president of the department of cult and religion together with his staffs, and Mr. Huor Met for several years, the ministry of cult and religion agreed to open Buddhist High School in Kampong Cham Province called Samdech Chuon Nath High School located in Wat Jotanaram (Wat Boeng Kok) with agreement of ministry of cults and religions No. 14-96 k.dh.s. signed 30th July 1996.
Samdech Chuon Nath Buddhist High School was inaugurated in May 15, 1997 under the presidency of Samdech Aggamahasenapatitejo Hun Sen, the prime minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and his madam.

Generous people who sponsored to establish Buddhist High School, namely,

1- Samdech Aggamahasenapatitejo Hun Sen, the prime minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and vice-president of Cambodian People’s Party sponsored a two-storeys of school-building (9 meters x 40 m) with 5 rooms and one meeting hall together with study-materials such as tables, chairs, and white board for teachers-students.
2- JSRC Organization donated a storey of school-building (9m x 40 m), four rooms equiqed with electricity, lamps, fans, and also tables, chairs for students in two rooms.

III. Samdech Chuon Nath Buddhist High School:

First opening ceremony was held on 5th May, 1997 which joined by the following Management Committees:

1- Management Committees:

a. Venerable Chhiv Sareth, (Executive) Director
b. Mr. Ross Sdeung, deputy-director, (deputy-director of A.Y.K department, Kampongcham province). (Retired)
c. Mr. Svay Sophy, Vice-director, (Director of Pedagogical School, Kampongcham Province).
d. Mr. Nguon Vann Thon, secretary (retired staff)

2. Teaching staffs:

a. Three school teachers (teaching Pàli and Religion)
b. Six teachers from public high school (other subjects)

3. Buddhist Student-monks

a. First academic year junior high school: there are 52 student-monks
b. Final academic year: 52 student-monks passed the exam for second academy and other five students moved to Suramarit Buddhist High School.
Conclusion: With great intention of School Management Committees, staffs and the efforts of students, the study-results was reached good quality and students passed the exam for second year 100%.
